In my instructions to the sub, I mentioned that there would be an assignment for you today about that short story called "Love" that we read in class last Thursday. We will do that assignment together when I get back to school tomorrow. Instead today, I would like you guys to do the following activity to help you study the words from Vocab Unit 1. We will have our first vocab quiz this Friday, so I would like you get some extra practice with the words and definitions today. So here's the assignment:
Find your "2 o'clock appointment" on your Group Work appointment clock. If your partner is not here today, please find one other classmate who needs a partner or do the assignment on your own. With your partner, choose any 15 of the 20 vocab words from Unit 1 and write a creative short story. And just for fun, make sure that you include any 3 of the items in the following list in your story:
A Magic wand
A cactus
A double rainbow
Abraham Lincoln
A samurai sword
A dragon
Starburst candies
Vampires
The 2008 Phillies baseball team
A wedding ring
Mr. Rendine
Taylor Swift
Beyonce
Disney World
You will be graded for using the words correctly and for using the words and list items in a fun and school-appropriate way. I will also to expect your story will be typed and double-spaced and at least one full page in length. This assignment is worth 50 points.
Just in case you don't have your vocab books with you right now, here is a list of vocab words and definitions from Unit 1 for you to use:
